Flying First to London: the route landscape
No international route carries more First Class seats from the United States than New York to London. British Airways alone operates up to a dozen daily Heathrow departures from JFK, several with First cabins on the A380 or refreshed 777, and layers First service onto Boston, Washington, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. American Airlines adds Flagship First on the 777-300ER from JFK, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Los Angeles. The result is genuine choice: on a single travel date you can often compare six or more First departures across two alliances.
The flight itself is short by First Class standards — under seven hours eastbound from the East Coast — which shapes how the cabins are used. Regulars treat the BA First seat as a supper club with a bed attached: dinner after takeoff, four or five hours of sleep, and a landing at Heathrow before the morning meetings begin. Arrival at Terminal 5 puts you steps from the Heathrow Express, fifteen minutes to Paddington, and BA's arrivals lounge offers showers and a cooked breakfast for those going straight into the day.
The best First Class airlines for London
First on the A380 and refreshed 777 from more US gateways than any competitor, all into Terminal 5.
The only US-flag true First Class, on the 777-300ER from JFK, DFW, and LAX to Heathrow.
No First cabin, but the widest nonstop network to London — the strong business-class fallback when First is sold out.
When to go
London rewards every season, but fares do not. June through August and the December holidays command peak First Class pricing, and cabins sell out weeks ahead. Late September through November brings crisp weather, full theatre calendars, and noticeably softer premium fares. January and February are the value window — the city is quiet, hotel suites discount heavily, and First availability opens up.
Arriving well
Heathrow's fast-track arrival channels and the UK's ePassport gates make immigration among Europe's quickest for US passport holders. BA First passengers can book the Arrivals Lounge in Terminal 5 for a shower and breakfast before heading in. Mayfair remains the classic base — Claridge's, The Connaught, 45 Park Lane — with Belgravia and Knightsbridge close behind. Ask your concierge about a chauffeur transfer booked with the fare; the M4 at rush hour argues for the Heathrow Express plus a car from Paddington instead.
